The Community Risk Reduction (CRR) Division, formerly known as Fire Prevention, is dedicated to protecting the community through proactive fire and life safety efforts. This includes adopting and enforcing fire codes and ordinances, reviewing development and construction plans, issuing permits, and conducting inspections for new and existing commercial, industrial, educational, and multi-family residential buildings.

CRR works to reduce the risk and impact of fire through a comprehensive approach that includes code enforcement, fire protection engineering, wildfire hazard reduction, and public education. The division manages programs such as business inspections and residential wildfire hazard reduction, conducts fire investigations, and provides fire and life safety outreach to the community.

In coordination with local agencies and building departments, CRR staff support safe and efficient development by assisting throughout the planning and construction process—from initial plan review to final occupancy. Inspectors also help maintain safe living and working environments by addressing code violations, evaluating fire damage, and ensuring buildings meet current safety standards.

Through collaboration, education, and enforcement, the CRR Division is committed to minimizing risk, supporting the community, and enhancing overall public safety.
